Professional Background
Dr. Waterman is double board-certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and the American Board of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, and the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
A Seattle native, Dr. Waterman was accepted directly from high school into the highly competitive Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute/Albany Medical College BS/MD program. He completed his biology degree at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and earned his medical degree from Albany Medical College at age 23, having completed the accelerated combined BS/MD curriculum in six years rather than the typical eight. During medical school, he received the John Milton Bigelow Prize for excellence in examinations related to ear, nose, and throat medicine.
He went on to complete a general surgery internship, followed by a four-year residency in Otolaryngology at Albany Medical Center Hospital. During residency, Dr. Waterman trained under Dr. Peter Koltai, a recognized leader in pediatric otolaryngology, who introduced him to rhinoplasty—an area that became a long-standing focus of his surgical training.

Personal Note
Outside the operating room, Dr. Waterman is an avid competitive cyclist. He has raced at nine velodromes in five states and four countries, and he earned a Pan American Games gold medal in the 750-meter time trial. In addition to cycling, Dr. Waterman enjoys skiing, playing guitar, studying languages, and traveling. He is also the proud father of two young adults.
